Chiropractic- what’s it all about??

A few days ago I had the pleasure of meeting a wonderful hair stylist who asked me what I did for a living. I proudly replied, “I’m a pediatric and maternity chiropractor”, to which he wondered out loud “Oh, do a lot of kids have bad backs*?”. I had to stifle a chuckle and reminded myself that the number one reason people go to a chiropractor is headaches and low back pain. Chiropractic quickly and effectively can reduce pain from such ailments. So then you have to wonder… why do people keep going to the chiropractor???

*The reasons children, from newborns through adolescence, visit a chiropractor are many-                  and will be detailed in an upcoming post- so check back weekly!*

Pop Quiz: Why do people keep going back to their chiropractor??

A.) We are only a short term, temporary fix

B.) Chiropractors only do enough to get you out of pain for that day so we can get repeat business day after day?

C.) Chiropractic, once understood, empowers a person to take responsibility of their overall health and people understand the importance of getting their nervous system checked to prevent major health challenges from occurring/reoccurring.

If you chose answer C, you’re well on your way to understanding that chiropractic is a whole body science and while chiropractors provide adjustments to your bones, they are directly impacting your nervous system.

Chiropractic, by design, is not to make you instantly feel better; it’s to make you instantly heal better. But what does that mean? While most of our patients that present to our office in pain do end up leaving feeling significantly improved, the adjustments performed to the spine will actually take pressure off nerves and stimulate the nervous system to ramp down the pain cycle, decrease swelling in the tissues, and allow the body to heal cells, tissues, muscles, nerves, and even organs from above down, inside out.  Chiropractic will fix a problem at its source, rather than treating the symptoms of the problem.

Pop Quiz #2: When is the best time to see a chiropractor?

A.) When your back pain flares up

B.) When your headache causes you to reach for that bottle of ibuprofen

C.) When you’ve got a cold with a runny nose and fever

D.) When you’re healthy

E.) All of the above

Answer: E
In each of these situations, a visit to a chiropractor will be beneficial. Are you kind of stumped on choice D? What is healthy? Is health merely the absence of symptoms of discomfort? I’ve met plenty of “healthy” people, who take medications for high blood pressure/anxiety/depression/underactive thyroid/headaches/ect., are overweight, are physically and emotionally stressed with demanding jobs and family situations, and have chronic viral infections. So is that really the picture of health that we should be striving for? Chiropractic adjustments keep your immune system functioning at it’s absolute best keeping you functioning at 100%.

So ask yourself, are you the picture of health? Do you function at your optimal level every day? Does your nervous system need a boost? Then don’t hesitate to call Skraitz Chiropractic! Our Front Office Coordinator, Erica, will be happy to assist you with scheduling your visit to see either Dr. Kristina or Dr. Tim.
