"Doctors pour drugs of which they know little, to cure diseases which they know less,
into human beings of whom they know nothing."
~Voltaire
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
What do Chiropractors do?
Doctors of Chiropractic practice a drug free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.
What is a spinal manipulation and how is it done?
The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal. Chiropractic adjustment rarely causes discomfort.
How long will I be under chiropractic treatment?
Your chiropractic treatment plan will be evaluated by Dr. Skraitz and is designed to meet your individual needs. Chiropractic care is comprised of four (4) levels of treatments: initial intensive care, corrective or spinal healing care, continued corrective care, and health optimization/wellness care. Initial intensive care may require many adjustments per week in order to reduce pain and tissue injuries. Corrective or spinal healing care is the period of care where the adjustments are holding for longer periods of time. A patient's subluxation pattern may shift and different areas may need to be adjusted on each visit. Continued corrective care is the level of treatment where your spine is maintaining its alignment and increasing its flexibility and strength. Periodic spinal examinations allows many of the problems your spine experiences from years of subluxation damage to be corrected and prevented in the future. Lastly, health optimization/wellness care is the point of treatment where your spine is flexible and moves in a fluid motion. Your vertebrae move easily, your muscles are balanced and your discs, tendons, and ligaments are strong. Subluxations may occur periodically but can be easily fixed by receiving spinal manipulations.
Why should I choose chiropractic for my health care needs?
Chiropractic is a natural approach to health care. Chiropractors do not prescribe any sort of medicine. Instead of using medicines, such as painkillers, to mask or "take the edge off" the pain, chiropractors treat the cause of the pain. By treating the source of the pain and discomfort the body will be able to heal itself and be free from subluxations, pain and discomfort in the long term.
